Welcome to West Indian Museums.
The Caribbean is a region with a rich historical heritage. This heritage started with the migration of the Amerindians from the Americas about 5,000 years ago. It is believed that the Kawabs / Tainos people came from a Mayan and Central America background. They migrated to Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Evidence of Central American artifacts was found in Puerto Rico. The earliest carbon dating of artifacts found in Puerto Rico date back to 3,000 BC.
Arawak/ Tainos were the predominant natives in the region and inhabited the area stretching from Florida to South America as far south as Brazil. These were the natives that Columbus encountered on his first voyage of rediscovery.
After Columbus came a five hundred year period of conquest and colonization. This era is one of the most colourful historical periods in the Caribbean. Evidence of this era can be found in the many museums located on the various Caribbean islands.
Westindianmuseums.com is offering the surfers an opportunity to take a virtual tour of Caribbean museums. The Chaguaramas Military History & Aerospace Museum is the first regional museum to upload a website where visitors can actually take a virtual tour. As time go by we hope that other museums will follow suit. For the time being we have placed links and information to other regional museums.
